 Head of the Warren CommissionBirthdate: March 19, 1891 - Death: Tuesday July 9, 1974 Chief Justice of the United States, Earl Warren was appointed by Lyndon B. Johnson and J. Edgar Hoover to be the chairman of a commission aiming to find the truth about the assassination of John F. Kennedy in Dallas, Tx. This investigating committee is better known under the name "Warren Commission". A former candidate for the vice-presidency of the United States, as well as former governor of California, Warren worked at the Supreme Court from 1953 to 1969. Warren had first refused to be the chairman of this commission, considering that a member of the Judiciary could not work for the Executive. Lyndon B. Johnson apparently managed to convince him during a private meeting. When going out of it, Earl Warren is said to have had tears in his eyes. See also: John F. Kennedy, Mark Lane |
